Interview with Ray Powell, Score Publishing Prep Insider

Q: I know with your size people might think all you can do it bring heat but what is your fast ball clocked at? And what other pitches do you throw.
A: 94. I throw a curveball that ranges from 75-81 mph and a changeup 78-83.

Q: Do you have an out pitch in a 3-2 count?
A: It depends on the hitter and the situation but I like to stick with the heat.

Q: You’ve already signed a letter of intent for the University of Arkansas. Did you ever consider any other schools? Why Arkansas?
A: No I didn’t really consider any other schools. Creighton and Oklahoma were the other two I was kinda considering. Just from talking to the recruiting director and assistant coach, he’s a great guy. I had a chance to take an unofficial visit out there…I really liked the stadium.

Q: You have an advisor. What is his role? You had about 27 scouts the other day watching you pitch.
A: He knows the game. He’s been in it and in the pros. He and has a relationship with all the scouts, so he kinda gets information from them.

Q: You started the season 0-3. Are you getting frustrated because you haven’t reached the victory column?
A: I think I’ve been pitching pretty well, just coming up a little bit short.

Q: It’s pretty obvious you’re going to get drafted in this June draft. Heard any rumors or mock drafts?
A: The draft is so unpredictable you can’t really judge. You can only guesstimate. I’ve heard top four or five rounds.

Q: Is there a dollar figure that would make you pick (MLB) over college?
A: No. There are a lot of factors that will go into it.

Q: Have you thought about the first thing you’re going to buy when you come into a little money?
A: Probably a car if I could. But first-year guys aren’t allowed to have cars.
