Two-Sport Star Will Always Remember Baseball Title
By Ray Powell

According to Columbine High School first baseman Curtis Cunningham it will be a sad day when his 2008 baseball season comes to a close.

Cunningham, who is University of Colorado bound on a football scholarship in June won a state baseball championship his sophomore year and a state title in football his junior year.

“I have not really thought about baseball coming to an end,” Cunningham said in a recent interview with CFI.

“We are definitely a playoff caliber team and who knows what can happen in a single game,” said the two time all-state first baseman.

Aside from wanting another state baseball championship ring the talented two-time football defensive player of the year has a few more goals.

Cunningham is one of the strongest prep players in the country.

He proved this by setting a Hog Olympic record by bench pressing 185 pounds 40 times.

His goal is to break Columbine’s school record of bench pressing 410 pounds set by Dusty Hoffsnider.

“I am closing in on the record as I can lift 395 and have a month and one half left yet,” he said.

When asked which state title he enjoyed winning the most while at Columbine he said, “Probably the baseball title as that was the first one”.

At the rate Cunningham is winning championships he may be able to add a championship ring during his four years nailing opposing running backs as a Colorado Buffalo.

“The coaches told me to come in and be ready to work and fight for playing time, so I am going to get there early and show them I am ready to play,” said Cunningham.
