Sostarich Enriches Rockies Scout Team
By Ray Powell

Mykol Sostarich has reached the point many others would envy. He’s a senior at Brighton High School yet he’s got a whole lot more going for him.
Sostarich has seen experience on the field having played baseball since he was very young. It’s become a year round sport and he played his summer ball for the Colorado Impact coached by Brett Williamson. The team won three big tournaments over the summer, two of which were Triple Crown tournaments and the other a college showcase.
Currently Sostarich plays for the Colorado Rockies scout team. The Rockies Scout team is selected each year from talented high school kids in the area to represent the Colorado Rockies and the state of Colorado at showcase events and college exposure games in the fall.
The goal of this team is to expose these players to every level of college baseball, coaches and professional scouts. This is a very elite team that has a reputation for putting together a highly talented team of college-bound players.
The success rate speaks for itself. The scout team is fortunate over the last eight years to see hundreds of players go on to realize their dream of playing baseball at the college or professional level.
"My coach this summer, Brett Williamson, was one of the guys to choose players for the team and he chose me," Sostarich said in a recent interview with Colorado Baseball Insider.
Sostarich is a three-year varsity letter winner in baseball at Brighton and was named first team all conference last year as a center fielder after batting .430 in his junior campaign.
"They have me batting in the No. 3 spot,” Sostarich said, "because I can hit the ball with some power or just get the base hits. Whatever my team needs."
Sostarich will even lay down a bunt when he sees the infield playing back and with his great speed, why not.
"My coach gives me the green light to lay down a bunt whenever I feel they are too deep on me," he explained.
Sostarich also has been given the green light to steal when he wants to both in high school and on the Rockies scout team and feels that is the strength of his game.
The young star would like to go to a junior college in Arizona with hopes of earning a scholarship to play at Arizona or Arizona State. And with a GPA of 3.4 and an ACT score of 22 he has all the tools necessary to make that move after his senior year.
Sostarich will have a very busy fall playing for the Brighton soccer team in addition to playing every weekend against college teams with the Rockies scout team.
Colorado Baseball insider will continue to follow the progress with this up and coming star.
